Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

When you are looking for search engine submission and optimization services you should look to someone that will listen to your needs. When deciding whether to outsource Search Engine Optimization (SEO) work or do it in-house, it is important to consider the actual costs involved. Often, when the hours it takes to pay someone to learn "on the job" are taken into account, it is cheaper and nearly always better to outsource the search engine submission and optimization work.

Your best chance for getting listed is through individualized hand submissions. Using a combination of good titles, descriptions, keywords and relevant copy is your key to success.

  Successful Equation:

Meta Tag Generation + Search Engine Submission = Getting Noticed

Meta Tag Generation

Search engines don't know you exist? You've entered your URL and they still won't list you? Let me add or overhaul your Meta Tags.

Meta tags are hidden strings of HTML code that search engine robots can see and read. They read these tags to find how to list you. For example, if you sell gizmos and a customer looking to buy gizmos enters "gizmos" in a search engine, the search engine will look for all sites containing meta tags with the keyword "gizmo" in it. If it's not listed in your site, you won't be found by the search engine or the buyer.

Search Engine Submission

Your web site is lacking if no one can find you. Search engine registration AND placement is crucial for you to be found on the Internet! It's not good enough just to simply add your URL to a search engine and then forget about it. If your site isn't listed on at least the first three pages, you can forget about being found.  In order to get listed and have a high placement, you must have properly placed Meta Tags in your web site. If you are not sure if your Meta Tags are there or in place properly, I can remedy it for you.

My Initial Steps:

  • Identify target audience
  • Set goals for search engine submission and optimization
  • Keyword effectiveness research
  • Keyword density analysis
  • Keyword popularity summary
  • Competitive rankings research
  • Website code review

Search Engine optimization:

  • Identify keyword phrases that best sell your business
  • Edit and correct text to include those keyword rich phrases
  • Offer design suggestions to help gain higher rankings
  • Optimize and generate meta tags

Submitting Your Site:

I submit to the top of the line search engine sites by hand and don't rely on any outside services or generated forms to do so.  Examples of these sites include:  Yahoo!, Google, Lycos, AOL Search, MSN Search, HotBot, Webcrawler, Top 10 Links, Open Directory Project (ODP), etc.

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT YAHOO!
If you are a business, Yahoo! now requires you to pay a reoccurring annual fee of $299.00, to be listed. This fee goes directly to them and has nothing to do with my services. After Google, they are the most important of all the search engines. I can submit your site to them, but a valid credit card will be required.

In addition to the top 10, there are literally hundreds of lesser known search engines and the benefit of adding your site to these search engines is: the more times your site is listed or linked somewhere, the more popular your site becomes. The more popular your site becomes, the higher up on every search engines' list you become. Popularity can be just as important for your site placement as Meta Tags are.

I cannot guarantee placement. Neither can I guarantee sales as a result of my optimization services. Each engine is different and they all have their different criteria and agendas that are often beyond anyone's control. There are other Search Engine Optimization services that do make those promises, but logic dictates that NO ONE can legitimately promise any amount of clients or that they will each be number 1.  What I can promise is that I will carefully choose keyword phrases and include them in your text and tags and will submit to as many appropriate search engines and directories as possible. (Note: Most of the companies that  promise top placement will optimize your site for keyword phrases no one would look for - of course they can promise top position for that precise keyword phrase; but will anyone ever search for exactly that phrase?)

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) isn't terribly complicated, but it also isn't something that can be learned overnight. Search engine marketing is an ongoing process and can make the difference between having a site that is successful and having an outstanding site which never comes up in the search engines.

Tips:

Put Main Keywords in the Title Tag
Having your most important keywords in your URL, the title tag, the headers and in the text of first paragraph on the page and several times in the body of the page are the most important areas to get good ranking in search engines. If you can get them into your domain name that is even better, but keep the domain name short or the URL will be too long once you add directories and documents on the end.

Length of Title Tag
Most search engines and directories allow 50-60 characters for the title but some will use it all and others will cut off the words on the end so put the most important words up front (some search engines will only allow you to use the official company or website title).

Site Meter An excellent tool that is recommended by many is the free Site Meter because you can check out the last 100 referral links and therefore tell which search engines have your site listed. It has a very small logo with no name on it and you can use it on any page on your site. And most important to webmasters, the code validates unlike a lot of other counters. They also send you a weekly report by email so you can keep a record of visitors.
